Write for the Social Impact Review!
The Social Impact Review reflects the work of experienced leaders united in their commitment to make a significant difference in the world - locally, nationally and globally. We aim to inspire and inform practitioners in the area of social impact, from established change agents to those just starting their social impact journey. We welcome and encourage submission of articles, opinion commentaries, academic research, and reviews of relevant social impact-related books and conferences from all contributors, including those who do not have an affiliation with Harvard.
We address the following major themes and pathways to social impact:
Climate Change and Sustainability
Democracy, Law, and Human Rights
Education
Health
Racial and Gender Equity
Social Enterprise and Economic Development
Arts and Culture
What we look for:
The Social Impact Review is looking for original content that:
Is grounded in experience and evidence;
Represents diverse perspectives and voices;
Inspires and informs solutions or recommendations to effect social change; and
Is focused on achieving equitable outcomes.
Submitted articles should also have logical, persuasive arguments; compelling narrative and storytelling; and clear solutions or policy recommendations. Opinion commentaries should be addressing relevant social issues of our time and express a unique, evidence-based point of view.
Eligible Formats of Submission
Original articles
Must be between 1,000 - 2,500 words and include hyperlinked citations where appropriate.
Opinion commentaries
On a timely and relevant social issue must be between 600 - 800 words and include hyperlinked citations where appropriate.
Research articles
Must be between 2,000 - 6,000 words and offer implications, solutions, or policy recommendations for social impact. Hyperlinked citations should be APA-style. This is not peer-reviewed.
Reviews
Of relevant social impact-related books or conferences must be between 800 - 1,200 words. Book reviews should include full citations, including publisher and publication year, if applicable. Links to authors’ websites are acceptable.
All submissions should:
Have not been previously published in the currently-submitted form.
Be in the English language and use Associated Press (AP) style.
Properly credit all sources through citations, hyperlinked within the article (no footnotes). Content that is not available online should be cited (e.g., author and year) within the submission.
Be saved as a word document in the following format: LAST NAME - TITLE.
Include a high-resolution professional headshot (300dpi; greater than 150KB) and a brief biography of all authors (3 to 5 sentences). Your biography should include your subject matter expertise or qualifications.
Include any figures, tables, and charts as separate files.
We acknowledge that our contributors may find value in employing generative AI for researching article concepts and examples. If generative AI was used, we encourage authors to openly communicate how it was used with their Senior Editors. It is crucial to emphasize that our authors bear the responsibility for ensuring the accuracy, credibility, and uniqueness of their content.
